Monbazillac, situated near the town of Bergerac east of Bordeaux, is home to one of the world's great dessert wine areas. Often underrated due to the unfair comparison with its wealthy cousin Sauternes, Monbazillac can stand on its own as far as quality is concerned. Thierry Despres' Cuvée des Anges is a worthy replacement for the 'Le Barradis' Monbazillac which we sold for many years until the vineyard changed hands. His offering is fairly young but mature, elegant and fresh, with the accent placed on the preservation of fruit aromas and flavours. The sweetness is distinct and honeyed but never cloying. Best as an aperitif, with fruit tarts or after dinner. Grape varieties: Semillon/Sauvignon/Muscadelle 13%
