| | Background | | Cantine Volpi is a family enterprise, traceable to Cristina Cairo, wife of Giovanni Volpi, who ran a trattoria in the Piedmontese town of Tortona at the turn of the century. In 1914, her sons Pippo and Secondo opened a wine-bar and shop, and 'Cantine Volpi' was born. Pippo's son Giovanni was soon involved, then his nephew, Carlo Volpi - the current company President. | | ![Background]() |
| | The estate | After years of experience in producing wine with other people's grapes, in the 1980's Bruno and Carlo Volpi decided to take more control of the vineyards, acquiring the best properties available in the Colli Tortonesi, to guarantee the winery grapes of particular origin and high quality. The result is a "domaine" of 64 acres, mostly planted with Cortese and Barbera grapes, where Volpi obtains the raw material for his main products.
Cantine Volpi's wine-making premises are located in Viguzzolo, just outside Tortona. Here the grapes are transformed with the utmost care, the temperature of fermentation and each single stage in the production being carefully controlled.
