Bonarda is the second most planted grape in Argentina (after Malbec) but is not the same variety as its Italian namesake, originating instead in the Savoie region of eastern France.
This vivid ‘Natural’ example, made with indigenous yeasts and without the use of sulphur dioxide or any other additives is as much a treat as its Malbec partner (bin 851). It’s a big, tasty, upbeat red with great depth of flavour. Great colour, rich, dark fruit, low tannin and just a hint of crisp acidity.

In 1969 the Caligiore family bought Finca la Marolina vineyard in Mendoza’s Lujan de Cuyo region, close to the foothills of the Andes and in sight of its snowy peaks. Malbec had been planted there since 1930 and for some years the grapes were sold to local wineries until 3rd generation Gustavo took control in 2011, establishing his own winery 2 years later.
