The export manager of this impressive estate nabbed me at a wine show when I had no real interest in adding a new Bordeaux supplier. But I was impressed and I didn’t forget. So when ‘our’ Château Coursou was sold to a Chinese buyer unwilling to export to the UK, the lovely wines of owner and oenologue Philippe Carretero were a shoo-in to our range.
Vineyard size 45 hectares. Organic since 2012.

Bordeaux Blanc Sec AC, Château Rioublanc
The grapes are hand-picked for assured quality here, and the result is a thoroughly rounded mouthful of classic dry white Bordeaux. Citrus zest, white flowers and wet stones are immediate on the nose, but these give way to ripe white orchard and stone fruit such as pear and peach on the palate. It stands up very nicely as a drink on its own but try it with a light salad, pasta or goat’s cheese.
