Châteaux Pouchaud-Larquey & Seigneurs des Pommyers
Originally from Italy, the winemaking Piva family swapped Piedmont for Bordeaux in 1924 to work the land. They bought first Château Pouchaud-Larquey in Morizes in 1961, then Château des Seigneurs des Pommyers in 1989. Cabernet Sauvignon predominates in the wines from the former whilst the newly added red from Seigneurs des Pommyers is a softer, riper Merlot based blend.
Vineyard size 20 hectares. Organic since 1984.
Bordeaux Rouge AC, Château Pouchaud-Larquey
Originally from Piedmont in northern Italy, the Piva family have been vignerons for many generations, and purchased this château in 1961. They have produced this deep and rich wine which is approaching its very best now. A ripe heady bouquet leads on to a complex layered palate which is luscious and full of fruit. Soft and mellow, it retains great length of flavour. Recommended.
