Domaine des Cinq Autels started the production of cider in 1984. Previously, the company’s organic agricultural production was led by Maurice Pitrou, the father of Jean René. In 1967, Maurice Pitrou realized the harmful effects of using fertilizer products and decided to change its methods into an organic way of production. They have continued the organic practice to produce high-quality products in the most eco-friendly and healthy way. Today, 30 years later, they are still as convinced by this choice and are making ciders, as well as cognac, with the same passion.

Cidre de Normandie Demi-Sec

This Orangis Dry Cider made in much the same way as the Brut and from the same blend of apples, Jean Domaine des Cinq Autels’s Demi-Sec has almost twice the amount of residual sugar as its drier sibling. As less of the apple juice is fermented, its consequently a little lighter in alcohol – but packed with sweetish apple flavours backed by delicate yet zesty acidity. Presented in a corked, wired bottle.

We have been drinking this cider for over a decade, and it is without doubt, the best cider in the world. I prefer the sweeter demi-sec to the brut, but both are good. It might get overlooked because of it’s lower abv compared to the English head-banger type. But their “overlook” is our gain. Please keep on producing it.
