Château Rioublanc
The export manager of this impressive estate nabbed me at a wine show when I had no real interest in adding a new Bordeaux supplier. But I was impressed and I didn’t forget. So when ‘our’ Château Coursou was sold to a Chinese buyer unwilling to export to the UK, the lovely wines of owner and oenologue Philippe Carretero were a shoo-in to our range.
Vineyard size 45 hectares. Organic since 2012.

Description
Crémant de Bordeaux AC, Château Rioublanc
After a gentle pressing, followed by skin maceration, the wine undergoes secondary fermentation in the bottle, is laid down ‘sur lattes’ (the most efficient way of storing sparkling wine bottles in stacks on their sides) for a minimum of 12 months in an underground cellar at 14°C (actually old limestone quarries under the hill of St Emilion).
It’s an appealing pale gold colour with an abundance of fine persistent bubbles . The nose is crisp with aromas of white blossoms, pears and yeasty brioche notes. The palate is both lively and well-rounded, making it refreshing and enjoyable. It can be drunk now or will keep for up to 2 years
Serve at 8/10°C, ideally as an aperitif or throughout a meal. It will perfectly accompany fish and seafood, as well as cheese. And of course it’s a great choice for celebrations of all kinds!
