Description
It’s always hard when you’re asked for your favourite. I’m often asked for my favourite wine (see also: film, song, restaurant); I can usually come up with some contenders, but that’s it. So it is with winemakers, and Enguera’s Diego Fernández Pons is definitely on my list.
When he was asked to make an orange wine for the estate he wasn’t thrilled; like me he’s had too many austere examples.
But trends are trends and there’s growing demand, so his very accessible version is a welcome addition to our range.
The rare and native Valencian Verdil grape it’s made from grows in the high vineyards of the Sierra de Enguera from which the estate produces ‘”increasingly interesting wines which are more complex in nuance and aroma”.
A 12 day maceration gives rise to a wine with floral aromas of orange and peach blossom and intense citrus notes reminiscent of lime. There’s good balance, a very balanced rounding scent of sweetness, with attractive depth and presence.
