Gewurztraminer, ‘Le Secret du Sud’, Domaine Begude
Although predominantly grown in Alsace and Germany, Gewurztraminer (the ‘Earl Grey’ wine) is becoming increasingly popular elsewhere (see for example our ‘Marouette’ from Languedoc and ‘Adobe’ from Chile). It’s not common in Limoux though where altitude and a north-west facing vineyard have enabled James Kinglake to give his vines cool enough conditions for this wine to find a voice. It’s low in both acidity and sugar making it drier than many examples. It has characteristic lychee and rose petal aromas though with less intensity than some.
