Jacques Frelin has selected his best parcels of Merlot, aged them in French oak and produced this delicious bottle. Classic plum, cherry and blackcurrant notes give way to a smooth earthy core. Among the fruit and minerals there are subtle vanilla and coffee flavours and there’s a rich, lingering finish too. It’s sleek enough to be enjoyed without food but is a versatile food wine – like so many of Jacques’s bottles – and works with grilled veg, roast meats or harder cheeses.
