Spätburgunder Loessterrassen, Sander

£16.99

Stefan Sander’s best vineyards are situated on terraces of windblown sedimentary ‘loess’ soil, hence the name of this wine and that of its white Riesling partner.

The benign micro-climate of these vineyards is optimal for Pinot Noir enabling Stefan to craft an elegant and very harmonious wine with gently smoky, ripe berry aromas.

In the mouth there’s further ripeness and maturity with soft tannins as well as the hint of vanilla you’d expect following a minimum of 6 months ageing In French oak barriques.

Description

Stefan Sander worked in vineyards around the world before settling back into the family estate. His grandfather brought organic viticulture to the vineyards (and winery) in the 50s after noticing how his wife’s MS condition improved after he stopped using chemical fertilisers and started gardening organically. Stefan has now moved towards biodynamics. His wines are clean and expressive, perfect for ‘German doubters’.
Vineyard size 25 hectares. Organic since 1982.
