Stefan Sander
Stefan Sander worked in vineyards around the world before settling back into the family estate. His grandfather brought organic viticulture to the vineyards (and winery) in the 50s after noticing how his wife’s MS condition improved after he stopped using chemical fertilisers and started gardening organically. Stefan has now moved towards biodynamics. His wines are clean and expressive, perfect for ‘German doubters’.
Vineyard size 25 hectares. Organic since 1982.

Description
Spätburgunder Michelsberg, Sander
Classic and classy Pinot Noir, aged for 18 months in French oak barrels. The best grapes are hand-picked from the best vineyard (Michelsberg) which has a great microclimate and rich, fertile loess soil. It’s darkish ruby red in colour with ripe red berry flavours and some spice. Although already open and accessible, it offers tannin structure tight enough to permit further ageing. There’s good concentration and a satisfyingly long finish. Stefan recommends pairing this with lamb chops but there are plenty of interesting meaty and plant-based options here.
