Wilhelm Zähringer

Wilhelm was originally a wholesaler of organic and environmental products but he took over the family vineyard with his wife Marlies in 1986. The estate is close to the Black Forest and dates from 1844. Baden is the sunniest part of Germany, its vineyards influenced by the warm Mediterranean air brought north up the Rhône valley. These are lovely, gently crafted wines which will soon carry biodynamic certification.
Vineyard size 10 hectares. Organic since 1987.

Description

Spätburgunder Trocken, Zähringer

Light to medium Pinot with a slender and supple feel. Berry fruits predominate in nose and mouth – particularly blackberry, black cherry and blackcurrant. It has good structure, fine tannins and a clean, firm finish. A great introduction to German red wine making and very versatile with food – cheeses, pasta dishes, lighter meats.
