Casal Dos Jordões
In 1870 the Jordoes family began producing wine from terraced vineyards on the slopes above the river Torto but sold it in bulk. In 1994 Arlindo da Costa Pinto e Cruz began bottling his own wines and championed organic port production. Arlindo’s death saw control pass to his daughter Ana who now runs the operation. The ports are deliciously characterful and the reserve typically Portuguese with dark dried fruit flavours and bags of spice.
Vineyard size 32 hectares. Organic since 1994.

Description
Tawny Port ‘Majara’, Casal dos Jordões
Tawny ports are noticeably smooth, mellow wines. They are made in the normal way, then aged in oak barrels for 7 years. This aging exposes them to gradual oxidation and evaporation.
As a consequence, they gradually mellow from red to terracotta. Then eventually to a dark gold colour.
This barrel ageing imparts toasty and nutty flavours to the wine.
Our Majara Tawny is a reddy-brown chestnut colour, with vanilla, molasses, spice and soft hedgerow fruit flavours (sloe, damson, elderberry) and a fine balance between acitiy and sweetness.
It’s medium sweet, and ready to drink – tyically as a dessert wine.
