The ‘Grande Maison’ is a fortified house constructed by the English during the 100 Years War. Thierry Després retired recently and Jean-Louis and his son Benjamin Chabrol have taken over these lovingly restored vineyards where they are keen to continue working in the same organic way. Their range includes delicious Monbazillacs: truly elegant and deserving sweet wines.
Vineyard size 14.5 hectares. Organic since 1993.

Côtes de Bergerac Rouge, Cuvée Latour, Grande Maison
While some might regard Bergerac as Bordeaux’s inferior cousin the better producers have simply ‘got on with it’ and have been creating delicious bottles for those us who simply enjoy good wine. The evidence is found right here, and while it may be a ‘Bordeaux blend’ it has a few more herby notes in its make up than some, as well as a more restrained tannic backbone. Lots of red and black cherry fruit, with a good note of blackcurrant and plum, but that earthy character from the Merlot really shines too.
